What is nasal douching?
Nasal douching is a salt-water wash for your nose.
Reasons for nasal douching
- To reduce inflammation inside your nose
- To clear the nose of crusts and other debris
How to perform nasal douching
To make the solution, take a pint of boiled water that has been allowed to cool to room temperature. Add 1 teaspoon of salt and 1 teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda. Stir until all the salt has dissolved.
Use this solution to fill your nasal douching bottle. Flush the solution through the nose over a sink or bowl. Try not to swallow any of the solution.
How many times should I perform nasal douching?
At least once a day. If you are douching at night, allow one hour for full drainage to occur, before going to bed.
What if I have also been prescribed nasal spray or drops?
Continue to use them as normal but always use them at least an hour before or after douching.
