Tonsillectomy

Tonsillectomy is usually carried out for recurrent tonsillitis, but may also be done for chronic tonsil problems or problems caused by very large tonsils. The surgery is done through the mouth.

Turbinate surgery

Turbinate surgery is done to unblock the nose by shrinking the turbinates. The surgery is done through the nostrils.

Myringoplasty

Myringoplasty is done to repair a hole in the eardrum to prevent ear infections and give a dry, waterproof ear. The surgery is done through the ear canal but may involve an incision of the skin behind or just in front of the ear.

Nasal polypectomy

Nasal polypectomy is done to remove nasal polyps to unblock the nose when medical treatment has not worked. It is done through the nostrils, using cameras.

Pharyngoscopy and Oesophagoscopy

This is surgery to inspect the throat and swallowing tubes. Biopsies may be taken and the swallowing tube stretched if there is a narrowing.

Endoscopic sinus surgery

Endoscopic sinus surgery is done for recurrent or chronic sinus problems when medical treatment hasn’t worked. It is done through the nostrils, using cameras.

Septoplasty

This is surgery to straighten out the wall inside the nose. The surgery is done through the nose.

Grommet/T-tube insertion

A ventilation tube is inserted when there is fluid behind the eardrum or a retraction of the eardrum. The surgery is carried out through the ear canal.
